Missing hounds and ghosts galore..

When Fortuna, and Gideon, are called in to paint a portrait of Bella Bailout X Three Peat Ingathered at the greyhound track a massive can of worms is opened. Azalea, who's come along to assist, starts to talk about the PeeGrr group set up to close down greyhound tracks and declares that she will do everything she can to stop the track from remaining open. Ella who appears to be the dogs owner is trying to negotiate a $45,000 sale and is determined to get the portrait done as fast as possible so she can immediately ship out the dog, which belonged to her recently deceased wife Bella Grayson. Jeff Abernathy, kennel owner, is generally being difficult demanding that the dog never be allowed of the lead and his son Hoyt trying to allow him some freedom to run in the pen.

When backs are turned the two dogs have both vanished from the pen they had been running in together. Azalea and Fortuna head off to look for the two dogs and Gideon comes back fairly soon. But while on the surface everyone seems upset the reality is very different. Chief Clutterbuck arrests Azalea on her return declaring that she's obviously handed Bella the dog off to coconspirators and that is it as far as he's concerned. So once again they are trying to clean up after the police.. only it's not just a missing dog.. turn's out that Bella Grayson's death was another cover up.. and there's a lot more going on than meets the eye at the dog track.. what Fortuna has to work out is exactly who is involved with each crime and how far she can trust Martin and Jeeves.. and when Clutterbuck sacks Gabe she's got an even bigger problem as Miss Bessie makes an irreversible decision.. it might not rain much in Mystic's End but it certainly feels like it's pouring down.

I was somewhat surprised to find that this is book 5 in this very engaging series, now I would normally mark a book like this a maximum of 4 stars as it isn't really a stand-alone book, it is more part of a serial, but it is so enjoyable that I have overlooked this and given it 5 stars.
I really like the set of characters that form the backbone of these books, they are well written, consistent and just quirky enough to make them fun. The other characters that are introduced for each story are well enough fleshed out to hold the story together.
There is some very interesting conflict for each of the characters, for instance just how faithful to his master is the vampire butler/bodyguard Jeeves (or Sparkle) to his boss, and just how far would he act against him if he felt it was the right thing to do?
I always look forward to another book in this series, and this definitely didn't disappoint.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, and have voluntarily written this honest review.

Gideon has a new friend!! Hope they get to see more of each other. This new friend, although innocent, is creating a storm of trouble.

What happened to him? Who is his owner? His papers? Just to name a few. While trying to help with all that our heroine is dealing with her abilities, learns a new trick, her and Martin, and what is up with Jeeves. Live her nickname for him!!!

What is Miss Bessie doing?

A lot is happening in this story, need answers and to be ready for next book, then READ this one.

Fun cozy mystery book. Can be read as a standalone, but definitely better if read previous books. Author gives enough information to follow story without being lost, so do not worry, just enjoy it. Go back and get caught up because I have a feeling this storyline is heading for a wild ride soon.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

I wanted to enjoy this series. I had high hopes. The author managed the "cozy conundrum" by going the Scooby gang route. Instead of the MC going out there getting involved with things that are none of her business and asserting that SHE and ONLY SHE must solve this mystery, the MC is surrounded by folks who have a legitimate reason to want to find the solution. Including a journalist/conspiracy theory blogger helps...journalists are genetically required to be sticking their noses into places they don't belong. But in the end, or at least halfway through book 5, I am giving up. The interpersonal drama is just getting too much. And if I have to listen to the MC whine once more about everyone hiding info from her when she is absolutely hiding info from them. People do not have to know every little thing about their friends or even significant others. Just. Too much. I'm done.

Witches, a ghost, a smoking hot vampire, and a murder.

This book has it all! When Fortuna's assistant is arrested for the disappearance of the greyhound that Fortuna is supposed to be painting, something has to be done! The gang is back and ready to help discover the guilty party. A snarky book, a bacon loving greyhound, and a ghost or two or...no spoilers, you're just going to have to read it! Can they find the missing dog, and sort out what happened to his owner? Such a fun series! I can't wait for the next book!

I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

The author has lost focus

The objective of this story is to find Fortuna’s mother/family. Find out why she was abandoned on the courthouse steps. But it has become an animal rights platform instead.

She’s been asked for help but in order for her to do so it has to be on her terms. She expects honesty but she isn’t! She doesn’t like Martin’s wealth but she herself acts like a spoiled rich kid.

Can you please get the story back to what it originally was supposed to be about? Help Martin and Gabe as well as Fortuna find their moms?

Oops

The greyhound track has always bothered Fortuna. The dogs are well fed, and kept healthy. But they sat in small cages for about twenty- two hours a day when not racing and Fortuna couldn't stand it. Along with the race track and the dogs, one of the greyhound owners dies and, of course, the death is ruled natural causes. As long as Fortuna has lived here the coroner of Mystic's End has never ruled any deaths as suspicious or murder! It's up to Fortuna and her cohorts to find the truth, even if she has to turn someone into a frog...or maybe a dog?

A must read

I like that this author allows her characters to do big interesting magic. It's fiction so why not have fun with it. I like that Jeeves and Fortuna teamed up to work together in this book. It created lots of revealing and humorous dialogue. I've thought the series was moving too slow on the series' plot in previous books but this book pushed the series in the right direction. This book definitely had me smiling by the end.

A great book with a noble cause added in! Greyhound racing is a horrible thing and what these poor dogs are put through...horrendous! I’m glad this series brings this information to the front of people’s minds.
As for the story, we have ghosts everywhere! Or it just seems like it. Jeeves aka Sparkles (lol) plays a huge part as he and Fortuna team up to solve a murder and a greyhound conspiracy mystery. It’s a fun book with a serious behind the scenes message!

This is the first book of this series that I have read and I loved it!  Even without having read the previous books, it was easy to follow the story.  It's a really good book.  The story is great and I enjoyed reading it.  I will definitely look at the previous books and can't wait to see what will happen next to Fortuna and her friends.

Fun!!!

Whenever Leeds has a new book out, I pounce on it! Always such fun reads, and this one was no exception. I love Fortuna, and she has a difficult case this time! Interesting, intriguing, entertaining, and enjoyable! If you like paracozies, you really can’t go wrong with this series. Do start with book 1 though, for maximum enjoyment.

Getting closer to answers
As Martin begins to lose his patience, something sinister happens to place Gideon right in the centre of it all. Then a death occurs that shocks everyone! Can Fortuna solve this new mystery and still stay on top of the continuing mystery of witches trapped in bottles? Loving the series! Highly recommended!

I love love love this series!

I always look forward to another book in this series and I’m never disappointed. Fortuna takes on quite a lot this book and some major revelations happen for Gabe. Still no romance but there was definitely some tension between Fortuna and an unlikely player, it was perfect and I’d love to see that play out!

Book 5

Bella was killed, murdered actually and now all her possessions are being sold off by her wife, which includes her racing greyhound (another Bella, but this a male). But the dog disappears while everyones back was turned! Azalea is accused because of the ties with the "PEEGEES".

Enjoyable mystery within this series. Fortuna is a well created character and this was a cute mystery for a missing greyhound. Also very glad that even though I haven't read the other books in the series that i didn't feel lost.

Murders and Dog Kidnappings and A Cozy Paranormal Mystery
The stories in this series just keep getting better. And, yes, I think you do need to read them in order. In this episode, the dirt hits the fan about Greyhound racing, and the profits earned off the dogs. People go missing, people have major life changes and our heroine has to deal with it all. I so enjoy this series and already can't wait for the next book! I received this ARC book for free from the author and this is my honest review.

This is another book in the series involving Fortuna (artist, shop owner), Martin (son of a gangster, runs a greyhound race track and other things), Pepper (newspaper reporter, Fortuna's friend), Spike (a ghost), Miss Bessie (the old wise woman) and Jeeves (vampire bodyguard.)

In this volume Fortuna takes Gideon, her adopted Greyhound (who can basically communicate with her telepathically by symbols) to he track where she lets him play with another greyhound. Result: the other greyhound runs away and she gets blamed.

As usual.

Complicating things is a young girl who supports closing down tracks and treating animals better so, as expected, the ignorant and probably corrupt sheriff believes she's a terrorist.

So Fortuna has to avoid being arrested for a dog's disappearance, tries to find out what really happened, has to deal with something happening which the sheriff could really jump on her case about and at the same time as all of this is going on has to deal with the death of someone she knows and that person becoming a ghost.

There's a lot of stuff going on in this book and I really like it. I like the characters, my favorite being Fortuna but Jeeves being just behind her. He's a very interesting character.
