Burgers, Bunting, and Betrayal
A pristine white cat. A runaway parade float. A hero’s legacy built on a lie.
It’s the annual Pioneer Picnic in Tablerock, Texas, and Ellie Rockwell has her hands full. Between a "yellow plague" of oak pollen coating the manor and a seasonal tsunami of tiny kittens, the last thing she needs is a town-wide invasion of selfie-seeking Spring Breakers. But the celebration takes a dark turn when the town’s guest of honor, the boastful Colonel Walter Brennan, is killed by a runaway parade float.
The authorities are quick to call it a tragic accident, but the Colonel’s cat, a regal white Persian named Spirit, knows better. Taking refuge at the Silver Circle Rescue, Spirit is too terrified to tell the whole truth—even with the help of the shelter's magical communication crystals.
Ellie must navigate the town’s tangled history and the Colonel's many tall tales. As a massive spring storm cuts Tablerock off from the rest of the world, it becomes clear that someone is lurking in the shadows, desperate to keep the Colonel's final secrets buried.
Can Ellie and her furry team unmask the culprit before the storm clears, or will she be the next one rolled over?
